Our motorbike travel to Tunisia
Here we are! it's our first step in Africa, with so many expectations.....
We left home at the end of december, with our friends, and it's really cold. The temperature changes from 1 to 4 celsius degrees.
We took a boat and after 24 hours we reached Tunisi to handle all the custom practise; here the temperature is amazing, 18 degrees and it seems unreal to leave home and being shooted into the spring!
Out itinerary started in Sousse and the roman amphiteatre of El Jem, third in the world after the Colosseo and the Capua theatre.
After a stop to enjoy some meat skewers and mint tea, we go on to stop for the night in Gabes.
The day after Medenine' souk and the famous Ksar Ouled Soltane are waiting for us. Ksar Ouled Soltane is a fortified village formed by multi-level granaries; nowadays is uninhabited.
We go on passing through Tataouine, Ksar Ouled Debbab and the old mosque of the Seven Sleepers, and again to Chenini.
Chenini and Matmata, a little bit farther, are villages digged in the rocks; Chenini is towards the sky, and Matmata is undergroud.
Before reaching Matmata, we passed through Ksar Haddada (one of Star Wars sets) and Toujiane, a small village located in an area where the main activity is carpeting! We suggest to stop there and have a look at the colorful shops, and maybe buy some of the wonderful carpets they made!
The next day is very important for us....we finally reached the famous Ksar Ghilane Oasis, through the famous track (nowadays sealed) that bring us to Cafè Bir Soltane and the oasis.
We slept into typical berber tents, with an amazing nature around us...
After Ksar Ghilane another little peace of desert, in Douz, before continue to the salty lake of Chott El Jerid and Tozeur.
And the final detour are the mountain oasis of Chebika and Tamerza, with their palmeries and fresh waters....
But very soon is time to go back...we touch Gafsa, Kairouan and we arrived in Tunisi, ready to take the boat that will bring us back to the cold italy.....
